2015 Domestic In-Training FITs/PhD Post Doc FITs Travel Scholarship

PURPOSE
The AAAAI will provide funding to assist Fellows-in-Training (FITs) and non-faculty PhD Post Doc FITS in Allergy/Immunology to attend the 2015 AAAAI Annual Meeting. This year's meeting will be held February 20-24, 2015 and will consist of four Plenary sessions, two Keynote sessions, symposia, scientific workshops, seminars, and abstract presentations. These will cover current research and clinical topics relevant to the field of Allergy/Immunology.

PROGRAM GOALS

  • To offer an intellectually stimulating opportunity to In-Training FITs/PhD Post Doc FITs who attend the 2015 Annual Meeting.
  • To offer In-Training FITs/PhD Post Doc FITs the opportunity to meet with their colleagues and learn from their experiences.
  • To offer In-Training FITs/PhD Post Doc FITs the opportunity to keep abreast of the current research in the field.

TRAVEL SCHOLARSHIP TERMS

  • A maximum of $650 for 3rd or 4th year In-Training FITs who apply for a travel scholarship without an accepted abstract for presentation
  • A maximum of $800 for 1st or 2nd year In-Training FITs who apply for a travel scholarship without an accepted abstract for presentation
  • A maximum of $1,100 to In-Training FITs/PhD Post Doc FITs who apply for a travel scholarship and are first author of an accepted abstract for presentation; candidate must present his/her abstract at the Annual Meeting in order to be eligible for the $1,100 award.

Please note that the above travel scholarship amounts are for actual meeting-related expenses incurred and receipts must be submitted after the meeting by April 17, 2015. This travel scholarship will reimburse the recipient's (ONLY) domestic coach airfare, ground travel (including train or personal vehicle), hotel for meeting dates, course fees/registration and meal expenses up to the federally approved rate. Items not eligible for reimbursement are listed on the checklist provided in the award announcement email.

ELIGIBILITY

Category #1: Allergy-Immunology Fellows-In-Training (FIT)

  • 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th year FIT enrolled in an Allergy-Immunology Program that has been approved by the ACGME or by the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada.
  • An abstract submission to the Annual Meeting is not required to submit an application. However, the amount of the award will typically be higher for individuals who are first author of an accepted abstract.
  • A maximum of three FIT travel grant awards during the fellowship training years can be received.

Category #2: Post-Doctoral Research FIT

  • Training must take place in the US or Canada and be involved in Allergy/Immunology-related research.
  • An abstract must be submitted and accepted for presentation at the AAAAI Annual Meeting (note that abstracts are reviewed on a competitive basis).
  • An individual may apply during any year of training, but is eligible to receive a maximum of three FIT travel grants.

Category #3: FIT in a Medical or Surgical Specialty Other than Allergy/Immunology

  • FIT in a medical or surgical specialty program approved by the ACGME or by the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada
  • An abstract must be submitted and accepted for presentation at the AAAAI Annual Meeting (note that abstracts are reviewed on a competitive basis)
  • A maximum of three FIT travel grant awards during the fellowship training years can be received.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • Must be an AAAAI member prior to submitting an application for any of the listed categories.
  • If you complete your fellowship prior to the 2015 Annual Meeting you are not eligible for this award.
  • Individuals with a faculty appointment will not be considered.
  • The yearly number of travel grants awarded in each category is limited and will be dependent upon funding availability.

SELECTION

Travel scholarship selection is made by the Program Directors Assembly Executive Committee. Due to the limited availability of funds, some applications may not be accepted for funding. Preference will be given to those applicants who are first authors on abstracts that have been accepted to presentation at the Annual Meeting and who do not reside in the Houston, TX area. Notifications will be sent out in December 2014.

SUBMISSION

All applications must be submitted electronically to be considered. Please be sure that your application is fully complete prior to submission. No emailed, mailed or faxed applications will be accepted.

If you are selected for a travel award and are no longer able to attend the Annual Meeting, you are required to contact the AAAAI offices to forfeit your award prior to the meeting. Forfeited awards cannot be transfer to other individuals.
